Your wedding day is just around the corner. You have planned everything to perfection. The flowers are chosen, the dress is pressed, and your band is ready to play. However, have you given much thought to your wedding morning photos?
It might not feel like the most important part of the day, but it absolutely deserves careful consideration. Furthermore, getting the morning right sets the tone for everything that follows. With a little planning, your wedding morning photos will be some of the most treasured images from your entire day. Here are my top tips to make sure they are absolutely beautiful.
Why Your Wedding Morning Photos Matter More Than You Think
The morning of your wedding is the beginning of your story. It is full of quiet anticipation, laughter, precious family moments and the kind of emotion that cannot be replicated later in the day. Furthermore, these are the moments that set the scene. The details, the getting ready, the first looks with the people you love most. As your wedding photographer, I arrive during the morning preparations specifically to capture all of this. Your wedding morning photos document the start of one of the most important days of your life. They deserve to be beautiful, and with a little thought in advance, they absolutely will be.
Choose the Right Room for Your Wedding Morning Photos
Where you choose to get ready has a significant impact on your wedding morning photos. A room is not just a room. It is the backdrop for some of your most personal and intimate images of the day.
Many wedding venues now have beautifully appointed bridal suites specifically designed for morning preparations. If you are getting ready at your venue, make the most of these spaces. They are usually spacious, well-lit and styled beautifully, making them perfect for stunning wedding morning photos.
If you are getting ready elsewhere, choose your room carefully. Natural light is everything. A bright, light-filled room produces the most beautiful, soft and airy wedding morning photos. A dark room with no windows makes it very difficult to achieve that light and romantic feel.
Space matters enormously, too. Your hair and makeup team will arrive with a lot of equipment and will need room to work. Additionally, I need space to move around and capture you from different angles. A small, cramped room limits what is possible photographically.
If you have a big group getting ready together, consider booking two rooms. It will feel far more relaxed and give everyone space to breathe. Furthermore, it means nobody is fighting over the mirror. Plenty of mirrors mean everyone can check how they look without crowding into one small bathroom. They also give me wonderful opportunities for some beautiful reflective shots.

Capturing Your Wedding Morning Details
When I first arrive, I love to spend time photographing your details and accessories. These are an important part of your wedding day story, and they deserve to be documented beautifully. Think about gathering everything together in one place before I arrive. Your dress, your shoes, your jewellery, your perfume, and your flowers laid out together make for the most stunning detail shots. The groom’s details are just as important. Cufflinks, buttonholes and a well-pressed suit all tell the full story of the morning.
Meanwhile, I will be capturing the morning as it unfolds naturally around me. I give minimal direction during this time because I want everything to feel completely genuine. However, I may occasionally ask you to position yourself near a window or in a specific spot to make the most of the available light.
Allow Plenty of Time for Your Wedding Morning Photos
This is one of the most important wedding morning tips I can give you. Rushing is the enemy of beautiful wedding morning photos.
Allow far more time than you think you need to get into your outfit. As a general guide, if your ceremony is at 2 pm, aim to start getting dressed at 1 pm. Your hair and makeup artist may want to do final touch-ups once you are dressed. Additionally, there is the veil, the jewellery, the shoes and the perfume to add. A first look with your mum, your dad or your bridal party takes time too, and these are some of the most emotional and beautiful moments of the whole morning.
It is always far better to have spare time than to be rushing out the door. Furthermore, those final calm moments before you leave for the ceremony are golden for photography. I will make the most of every minute.
Clear the Clutter Before I Arrive
This one is simple but makes an enormous difference to your wedding morning photos. Bags, cases and general clutter in the background of your images will distract from the beauty of the moment.
Before I arrive, or as soon as I do, enlist your bridal squad to do a quick sweep of the room. Move bags into a wardrobe or another room. Tidy surfaces where possible. Above all, keep the space as clean and simple as you can. It literally pains me to see a beautiful moment with an ugly carrier bag in the background!

Relax and Enjoy Every Moment
Above all, your wedding morning is a deeply special time. It is time spent with the people you love most, being pampered and celebrated before one of the biggest days of your life. Furthermore, the more relaxed and present you are, the more beautiful your wedding morning photos will be.
Savour every second of it. I will be there quietly capturing it all. The laughter, the tears, the excitement and the love. Trust me completely, and I promise your wedding morning photos will be everything you hoped for.
My Top Tips for Beautiful Wedding Morning Photos
In summary, here is everything you need to know. Choose a spacious room with plenty of natural light, as this is the single most important factor for beautiful wedding morning photos. Declutter the room before I arrive and enlist your squad to move bags and cases out of sight. Gather all your details in one place, as dress, shoes, jewellery, perfume and flowers laid out together make for stunning detail shots. The groom’s details matter just as much, so do not forget those. Allow plenty of time and aim to start getting dressed at least an hour before you need to leave. Consider two rooms for larger parties, as space and light make everything easier and more relaxed. Above all, relax and be present. The more you enjoy the morning, the more beautiful your wedding morning photos will be.
I hope these tips have helped you feel ready and excited about your wedding morning. With a little thought and planning, these photographs will be some of your absolute favourites from the whole day.
