When I first met with Natassia and John and they told me about their wedding day I was so excited. Notley Abbey is such a beautiful wedding venue and a photographers dream. Plus Natassia and John were such a lovely couple and we hit it off straight away. I was so pleased they chose me to capture their Notley Abbey wedding photography and I couldn’t wait for their special day
Natassia and John chose the beautiful St Mary’s church in Thame for their wedding ceremony. Then it was on to Notley Abbey for their wedding reception. Notley Abbey is a beautiful exclusive use wedding venue that dates back over 850 years and is part of the Bijou group. As soon as you arrive at the wedding venue and you drive along the stunning tree-lined driveway you will be captivated. The medieval building and beautifully landscaped gardens make for the most spectacular wedding, whatever the weather. Set in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside Notley Abbey has to be seen to be believed and in my mind is the most perfect wedding venue
The Pub Beforehand
Natassia decided that she didn’t want photos of the bridal preparation. She was quite happy for me to head straight to the pub to meet the boys. John and his groomsmen headed straight to The six bells in Thame. Right opposite the church where the wedding ceremony was taking place. When we first arrived it was raining quite considerably, however, the gods were in their favour and this cleared up fairly quickly thankfully. The six bells is a quintessentially English pub with oak beams and roaring fires. The perfect start to a winter wedding
The Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony took place in the beautiful St Mary’s church in the Oxfordshire village of Thame. St Mary’s church was founded in 635AD and is a beautiful sight to behold. Natassia was walked down the aisle by her dad with her three beautiful bridesmaids in tow. The ceremony was a lovely mix of laughter (when John said his I do’s too early) and lots of love. After the wedding ceremony the guests joined outside for the confetti shot in the stunning church grounds. Who doesn’t love a confetti shot! I then managed to grab Natassia and John for a few shots of the two of them before they left for Notley abbey. I couldn’t resist the beautiful autumn colours and picturesque lime trees. I’m sure you will agree they look stunning!
The Drinks Reception and Couples Portraits
Everyone headed off to the beautiful Notley Abbey for the wedding reception. A little bit of drizzle didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and they all came out for a big group shot. Natassia and John were more than happy to hang around outside for their portraits while their guests enjoyed their reception drinks. A Notley Abbey wedding is a real dream for me as I am spoilt for choice when it came to finding the perfect spot for couples portraits. The tree-lined drive was a must, as was the front of the beautiful country house wedding venue
After the drinks reception everyone headed in to the main stone barn for wedding speeches and the wedding breakfast. The speeches were incredibly funny and light hearted and also very touching. Natassia spent the whole time beaming and the guests just didn’t stop laughing
After speeches was the wedding breakfast. Guests were treated to a fish starter, pork belly and the most divine creme brulee I have ever experienced (well done Notley abbey, I am a creme brulee connoisseur!)
The wedding breakfast and evening do took place in the simply stunning monks refectory. This elegant stone barn at Notley Abbey remains largely untouched since the Augustine monks dined there in the 13th century so it has an amazing history. The decor was warm and subtle with twinkling fairy lights everywhere. It was a really chilly day and was lovely and cosy inside the stone barn. Natassia and John cut their beautiful 3 tier wedding cake and then it was on to the evening party. The first dance was beautifully rehearsed and a real crowd-pleaser. Everybody else then joined the happy couple on the dance floor and spent the rest of the evening dancing away!
It was such a pleasure to capture Natassia and John’s beautiful Notley abbey wedding photography. I spent the whole day smiling and I was made to feel like part of the family. Thanks for having me guys, I want to wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
