Wedding Venue Inspiration, Oxford

There are few wedding venues in the world quite like the Bodleian Library. As one of Oxford’s most iconic buildings, it offers something truly extraordinary — soaring Gothic ceilings, ancient stonework, and centuries of history in every corner. I have had the privilege of photographing weddings here many times, and it never gets old. If you are getting married at the Bodleian, you are in safe hands.

My approach to Bodleian Library wedding photography is soft, romantic, and timeless. I know this venue and its surroundings incredibly well. I know where the light falls, where the most beautiful portraits happen, and how to make the most of every space — whatever the season or the weather.

“Wow, Suzy is amazing!!
She captured moments I didn’t see and highlighted the beautiful moments I did.

I cannot thank her enough and the day would not have gone anywhere near as smoothly without her. While I was getting ready and making my way over she was really the glue of the morning!
Everything from dancing with my dad, checking my husband was at the first look, and getting pictures of the small details, which will probably fade with time.

She was so instrumental in our day. I don’t know how she has honed the ability to be in the center of it all, getting the pictures she and I want, yet somehow manage to stay invisible.

I would recommend her to everyone and anyone! Especially using the bodleian venue as she knows it so well.

Why you should choose The Bodleian Library for your wedding

BREATHTAKING ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORIC AMBIENCE

The Bodleian Library is one of the most stunning historic wedding venues in the UK. Its intricate stonework, grand halls, and soaring ceilings create a setting straight out of a fairytale. Every moment feels magical here. In summer, sunlight glows through the grand windows late into the evening. In winter, the gothic interiors and candlelight create an enchanting, intimate atmosphere. Whether you are planning a summer wedding or a cosy winter celebration, the Bodleian delivers something truly extraordinary in every season. It is why the Bodleian Library is one of my most treasured venues for wedding photography in Oxford.

A Unique and Prestigious Location for Your Wedding Photography

As one of the oldest libraries in Europe, the Bodleian is a cornerstone of Oxford’s academic heritage. It has hosted royalty, scholars, and some of the greatest minds in history. For Harry Potter fans, it also featured in several of the films, making it one of the most recognisable and iconic wedding venues in the UK. Choosing the Bodleian Library for your Oxford wedding means adding your love story to a rich and remarkable history. There is simply nowhere else quite like it for wedding photography in Oxford.

VERSATILE SPACES FOR YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION

The Bodleian Library offers three beautiful spaces for your Oxford wedding day. Each one is unique, and each one photographs beautifully.

The Divinity School is one of the most breathtaking ceremony spaces in Oxford. Its intricate gothic ceiling creates a stunning backdrop for a romantic wedding ceremony or an elegant wedding breakfast. It accommodates up to 150 guests for a ceremony and 120 for a wedding breakfast.

Convocation House is an intimate space with beautiful wood-panelled walls. It feels grand and personal all at once, and is perfect for a smaller, more intimate Oxford wedding ceremony. It accommodates up to 100 guests.

The Sheldonian Theatre sits just across from the Wren Door in the Bodleian quadrangle. It is perfect for drinks receptions, live music and late night dancing at your Oxford wedding reception.

PICTURE-PERFECT BACKDROPS FOR YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

As a Bodleian Library wedding photographer, I can tell you honestly — this venue is a dream to shoot in. The stone archways, Duke Humphrey’s Library, and ancient wooden doors offer endless opportunities for beautiful, timeless wedding portraits. I know this venue and its surroundings incredibly well. Within a short walk, we can capture stunning images at Radcliffe Square with the iconic Radcliffe Camera as a backdrop. The Bridge of Sighs, the cobbled streets of Oxford, and the Wren Door are all firm favourites of mine for wedding photography. Oxford is one of the most beautiful cities in the world for portraits, and the Bodleian sits right at its heart. I know the very best spots, and I promise you — your Bodleian Library wedding photography will be stunning.

frequently

asked questions

By now, you may have a few questions about this beautiful wedding venue.  I have tried to answer these as best as I can, but you can find more information at Bodleian Library weddings.  If you are getting married at The Bodleian Library and would like to discuss your Bodleian Library wedding photography, please contact me, and we can have a chat. I can’t wait to hear from you and talk all about your special day.

What is the capacity at The Bodleian Library?

The Bodleian offers two beautiful ceremony spaces. The Divinity School accommodates up to 150 guests for a ceremony and 120 for a wedding breakfast. Convocation House accommodates up to 100 guests for a ceremony.

Can we get ready at The Bodleian Library?

The Bodleian Library doesn’t have dedicated getting-ready spaces. Most couples prepare at a nearby Oxford hotel or private residence. I’m always happy to suggest the best options close to the venue.

Where are the best spots at The Bodleian Library for photos?

So many to choose from! Inside, Duke Humphrey’s Library and the Wren Door are particular favourites. Outside, Radcliffe Square, the iconic Radcliffe Camera, the Bridge of Sighs, and the cobbled streets of Oxford all make for stunning wedding portraits. I know this area inside out, and I will make sure your images are beautiful.

Can we have confetti at The Bodleian Library?

Confetti isn’t permitted inside the Bodleian or in its immediate vicinity. However, the Bridge of Sighs is just a two-minute walk away and makes a wonderful backdrop for a confetti moment — and a gorgeous set of wedding photographs.

Is there catering on-site at The Bodleian Library?

The Bodleian doesn’t have in-house catering, but works with a selection of approved caterers. They offer everything from fine dining to relaxed receptions, ensuring your Oxford wedding breakfast is everything you imagined. I’m happy to point you in the right direction if needed.

What if it rains?

The British weather keeps us all on our toes! It rarely rains all day, and I keep a close eye on the forecast throughout your wedding day. A beautiful umbrella can make for wonderful outdoor portraits. And if we stay inside, the Bodleian offers some of the most gorgeous interior spaces for wedding photography you will find anywhere in Oxford. Either way, I promise you will have stunning images.

Can we use confetti at The Bodleian Library

Unfortunatley you cannot use confetti inside The Bodleian Library, or in the immediate vicinity.  What you can do is head down to The Bridge of Sighs for confetti.  It is only a two minute walk away and it provides a great backdrop for your photos.
