Hollywood Glamour at The Bodleian Library – Erin & James

Some weddings have a quality that is hard to put into words. Erin and James’ summer wedding at the Bodleian Library in Oxford was one of those days. Elegant, warm, joyful and utterly cinematic — it was the kind of celebration that stays with you. From Erin’s stunning beaded Pronovias gown to the golden summer light flooding the Old Schools Quadrangle, every moment felt like a frame from a classic film. Hollywood glamour, Oxford style.

Bridal Preparations at University College Oxford

Erin began her morning at University College in Oxford — one of the most beautiful and historic colleges in the city, and a wonderful setting for bridal preparations. She got ready with her sister in a calm, relaxed atmosphere filled with quiet laughter and shared excitement. The morning had a lovely unhurried energy, exactly how a summer wedding morning should feel.

Erin looked absolutely stunning. Her Pronovias gown was breathtaking — beaded, elegant and completely timeless. Her hair and makeup carried a nod to old school Hollywood glamour that suited her perfectly. Classic, polished and effortlessly beautiful.

Once she was ready, we headed downstairs for a first look in the gardens. James’ reaction was one of my favourite moments of the entire day. He was completely blown away, and the smile on his face said everything.

Wedding Portraits Around Oxford

Before the ceremony, we took a relaxed stroll through Oxford’s historic streets for portraits. Oxford is always a dream for wedding photography, but on a clear summer morning it feels particularly magical. The light is warm, the streets are beautiful, and the city has an energy that is impossible to replicate anywhere else.

We stopped at some of Oxford’s most iconic locations — All Souls Gate, the Radcliffe Camera, the Bridge of Sighs and the steps of the Bodleian Library. Erin and James were complete naturals in front of the camera. They laughed, they were playful, and the portraits felt completely authentic. Those are always my favourite kind.

A Ceremony in Convocation House

The ceremony took place in Convocation House at the Bodleian Library — a breathtaking historic space with rich wooden panelling and incredible character. The room was beautifully dressed with florals that felt warm and romantic against the ancient walls. As Erin walked down the aisle, the emotion in the room was palpable. It was intimate, heartfelt and surrounded entirely by the people they love most.

For a summer wedding at the Bodleian Library, Convocation House is simply perfect. It is grand enough to feel special and intimate enough to feel personal — a rare and wonderful combination.

Drinks in the Quad and Portraits in Duke Humfrey’s Library

After the ceremony, guests spilled out into the Old Schools Quadrangle for a drinks reception in the summer sunshine. There are few more magical settings for a summer wedding drinks reception than the Bodleian quad on a beautiful day. The architecture, the warmth, the celebration — it all comes together in the most extraordinary way.

While guests enjoyed the sunshine, I took Erin and James up to Duke Humfrey’s Library for a set of portraits that became some of my absolute favourites of the day. If you have never been, Duke Humfrey’s Library is one of the most awe-inspiring spaces in Oxford. Ancient shelves lined with manuscripts, some dating back thousands of years, and an atmosphere that feels genuinely otherworldly. It has featured in several films, including Harry Potter, and stepping inside always feels like stepping back in time. For wedding photography at the Bodleian Library, it is unparalleled.

The Wedding Breakfast in the Divinity School

Dinner and speeches took place in the magnificent Divinity School — one of the most spectacular rooms in Oxford. Oxford Fine Dining served a wonderful feast, and the speeches were everything good wedding speeches should be. Heartfelt, funny, and the kind that has everyone laughing and wiping tears at the same time.

The long banquet-style tables worked beautifully in the Divinity School. The florals complemented the gothic ceiling perfectly, and the whole space felt both grand and intimate. Summer weddings at the Bodleian have a particular warmth to them, and the Divinity School in the early evening light is simply stunning.

Dancing the Night Away in The Divinity School

As the summer evening fell, the Divinity School transformed into the most beautiful party space. Erin and James hit the dance floor surrounded by their guests, and the celebrations carried on long into the night. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable Oxford summer wedding — full of love, laughter and joy.

These are the evenings I love most as a wedding photographer. When the formalities are done, the music is loud, and everyone is simply happy to be there. Erin and James’ guests were exactly that kind of crowd.
