There are some weddings you look forward to from the moment they are booked, and Hannah and Alex’s was one of them. Hannah and Alex’s summer wedding at Notley Abbey was one of them. I had spent time with them the previous autumn for their engagement shoot — one of those sessions where everything just clicks — and I could not wait to photograph them again. They are warm, joyful and completely natural in front of the camera. Furthermore, Notley Abbey in full summer bloom was the most perfect setting for them.
Why Hannah and Alex Chose Notley Abbey
Notley Abbey is one of those venues that speaks for itself. Hannah and Alex were drawn to its unique charm from the very beginning — the blend of beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, the endless variety of backdrops in the grounds, and the abundance of wildlife that makes the whole place feel serene and alive. As a wedding photographer, I cannot think of a better venue to document a love story. Every corner of Notley Abbey feels magical, and in summer it is simply breathtaking.
As a result, their black tie dress code suited the venue perfectly. Notley Abbey has a natural elegance that lends itself to something a little more formal and considered. It felt like a venue and a couple made for each other.
A Stylish Ceremony in the Abbot’s Hall
We were blessed with the most beautiful summer weather. The gardens were in full bloom, the lawns were lush and green, and the whole estate glowed in the sunshine. It was exactly the kind of summer wedding day that Notley Abbey was made for.
Hannah wore a stunning Mariana Hardwick gown and looked the absolute epitome of elegance. Alex was incredibly sharp in his classic black tie suit. Together, they were the perfect pair. Their ceremony took place in the Abbot’s Hall — a truly atmospheric and historic space that felt intimate and full of character. As Hannah and Alex exchanged their vows, surrounded by their closest family and friends, the room was completely still. One of those moments I never tire of photographing.

Confetti, Drinks & Lawn Games
After the ceremony, guests gathered at the front of Notley Abbey for the confetti toss — always one of my favourite moments of any wedding day. The summer sunshine made it completely magical.
Following this, the celebrations continued with a relaxed drinks reception on the lawn — think bubbles, Pimm’s and quintessentially English lawn games— it was the perfect summer wedding afternoon. I love this part of the day for candid photography. Guests relax, conversations flow, and the genuine joy of the occasion comes through in every frame.
Hannah and Alex’s couple portraits were a real highlight. We explored the stunning grounds together — the walled gardens, the stone archways, the lavender-lined paths and the iconic long driveway. These are some of my favourite portraits I have ever taken. The connection between them is so natural and so full of joy, and Notley Abbey gave us the most extraordinary backdrop to capture it.

The Wedding Breakfast in The Monk’s Refectory
Once everyone was seated in the beautiful Monk’s Refectory, the speeches began. They were a perfect mix of heartfelt words and hilarious stories — the kind that have the whole room laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next. The Monk’s Refectory is such a wonderful space for a wedding breakfast. The ancient walls, the warm light and the long tables create an atmosphere that feels both grand and wonderfully intimate.
The on-site catering team at Notley Abbey delivered a delicious seasonal menu that was perfectly suited to a summer celebration. As always, the food was exceptional.

A Stylish Evening Party
Before the evening reception began, Hannah changed into a second outfit — and absolutely owned the dance floor. The evening was full of energy, laughter and love. The kind of party that starts with a bang and never slows down.
I had the most wonderful day with Hannah and Alex. They were a joy to be around from start to finish, and they adore their images — which makes me a very happy photographer. Their summer wedding at Notley Abbey was everything a celebration should be, and I feel so lucky to have been there to capture it.
