Some wedding days have a magic that lingers long after the last dance. Hannah and Aaron’s black tie spring wedding at Notley Abbey was exactly that. It was elegant, joyful and bathed in the most beautiful sunshine. Furthermore, it was the kind of day every wedding photographer dreams of. I felt incredibly lucky to be there.
Notley Abbey — A Historic and Romantic Wedding Venue in Buckinghamshire
Nestled in the Buckinghamshire countryside, Notley Abbey is steeped in romance and history. Once home to Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, this former monastery blends medieval charm with timeless elegance. Stone archways, manicured gardens and an iconic tree-lined driveway make it one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the county. It is simply stunning.
Late spring at Notley Abbey is something special. The gardens come alive with colour. The light turns soft and golden. Meanwhile, a peaceful stillness settles over the grounds that makes everything feel more meaningful. Whether you are exchanging vows outdoors or dancing the night away in the Monk’s Refectory, Notley Abbey offers a backdrop that is hard to match anywhere in Buckinghamshire.

A Dreamy Outdoor Ceremony in the Walled Garden
Hannah dreamed of an outdoor wedding ceremony. Notley Abbey’s walled garden made that dream a reality. Framed by ancient stone walls and surrounded by lush greenery, the ceremony felt both intimate and grand. The spring sunshine lit everything beautifully. Additionally, the incredibly talented Charlotte Peck provided live vocals that added the most magical touch. It was as perfect as an outdoor spring wedding ceremony could be.
Black Tie Elegance with a Sunny yellow twist
The black tie theme brought a sophisticated flair to the day. It worked beautifully against the romantic backdrop of Notley Abbey. Guests looked incredible in tuxedos and elegant dresses. Meanwhile, the bridesmaids’ yellow dresses added a fresh and joyful pop of colour that stood out in the best possible way.
That combination — formal black tie elegance mixed with the easy, sunny vibe of an outdoor garden wedding — perfectly captured Hannah and Aaron as a couple. They were warm, relaxed and genuinely happy to be surrounded by everyone they love. As a result, the whole day had a wonderful, effortless energy from start to finish.

Golden Hour Portraits at Notley Abbey
As the sun began to dip, I took Hannah and Aaron for a quiet walk around the grounds. This is always one of my favourite parts of any wedding day. Not just for the photographs, but for the calm, romantic pause it offers in the middle of the celebrations.
The soft golden light was extraordinary. We explored the beautiful corners of the estate together, including the famous tree-lined driveway glowing in the evening sun. These portraits are some of my absolute favourites. Timeless, elegant and full of genuine emotion — everything a spring wedding at Notley Abbey should deliver.
A Party to Remember
Afterwards, it was time for the evening celebrations — and what a party it was. Hannah and Aaron’s guests brought such wonderful energy to the reception. The Monk’s Refectory came alive with music, laughter and dancing. Above all, it was the kind of joyful, high-spirited evening that reminds you what weddings are really about. Love, connection and pure celebration.
